Patients & VisitorsThe Department of Radiation Medicine in the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute offers a full spectrum of radiation therapy modalities including external beam radiation therapy, high energy photon and electron beam radiation, intraoperative radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, brachytherapy with permanent or temporary application of sealed radiation sources, as well as remote High Dose Afterloader. To support these technically complex applications of treatment, the most sophisticated planning equipment is in place, including CT simulator, simulator, CT scanner, a three-dimensional and Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) treatment planning system. Facilities are available for the application of beam modifying devices such as immobilization, compensators and custom blocks. Minor procedures to place catheters (not requiring general anesthesia) can be performed in the minor procedure room. Facilities also exist for the administration of treatments under general anesthesia, particularly for pediatric patients. |
